Amid recent attacks near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed deep concern. He warned that if such attacks continue, the resulting radioactive contamination could pose a severe threat to the entire Gulf region.
In a statement posted on social media on Saturday, he called on the international community to take notice. He recalled the strong reactions from Western countries during the conflict surrounding Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and questioned why similar concern is not being shown regarding attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
According to Araghchi, Israel and the United States have carried out multiple strikes targeting the Bushehr facility. He stated that if radioactive materials were to be released as a result, the impact would not be limited to Iran alone. Instead, it could severely affect the capitals of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
He further emphasized that such a scenario would pose a serious threat to human life, the environment, and regional stability. He also described the attacks on Iran’s petrochemical sector as part of a broader strategic campaign.
In light of the situation, Iran has urged the international community to pay close attention to the potential radiological risks and the security of countries across the Gulf region.
