Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to install bamboo poles along the Tin Bigha Corridor border area in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, violating international border regulations, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The incident took place on Friday afternoon (May 22) in Ward No. 5 of Dahagram Union near the Tin Bigha Corridor. Sources from BGB and local residents said members of the 174/Bhim BSF camp, accompanied by officials from the Indian Survey Department, began installing nearly 3-foot-high bamboo poles around 50 yards inside Indian territory adjacent to border pillar DAMP 7/30-S under the jurisdiction of Dahagram BOP of Rangpur Battalion-51 BGB. After noticing the activity, the Panbari Company Commander of BGB requested the BSF company commander to remove the bamboo poles. However, the BSF commander claimed the installation was being carried out under instructions from higher authorities and could not be removed without official orders. Later, around 50 to 60 BSF personnel, in the presence of Indian survey officials, attempted to continue the installation work despite objections from the Dahagram BOP patrol team. BGB personnel reportedly intervened and prevented further construction. Following the incident, BGB intensified patrol operations in Dahagram, Panbari, and Angorpota border areas. Although the installation work has currently been suspended, Indian survey activities in the area are reportedly continuing. Lieutenant Colonel Najiur Rahman, commanding officer of Rangpur-51 BGB Battalion, said BGB would not accept any activities by BSF that violate border laws. He confirmed that the installation work was halted following BGB’s objection. A flag meeting at battalion commander level has been called for Saturday (May 23), while the overall situation along the border remains normal.
