‘Delusions of a madman’: US politicians strongly criticize Trump’s indecent threats

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has described the recent remarks by Donald Trump as “the ranting of an uncontrolled madman.”
Following Trump’s use of vulgar and threatening language toward Iran, concern has spread among American politicians, with many also questioning his mental stability.
Earlier, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Tuesday will be the day of attacks on Iran’s power plants and bridges—everything will be wiped out together. Nothing like this has ever been seen before! Open the f*cking strait, you crazy bastards—or you will live in hell. Just watch what happens!”
The Trump administration has set a deadline until Tuesday evening for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This crucial global route for oil and gas transportation has effectively remained closed since the escalation of conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran at the end of February. As a result, global oil prices have surged to record highs.
Trump has repeatedly issued deadlines for reopening the strait and expressed frustration toward European and NATO allies. They have refused to recognize the legitimacy of the U.S.-Israel war against Iran and declined to intervene in the Hormuz crisis. In response, Trump has even threatened to withdraw the United States from NATO.
Iranian presidential communications adviser Mehdi Tabatabai said on Sunday that Iran would only reopen the Strait of Hormuz if war compensation is paid through a new legal framework as transit fees. He added that Trump’s offensive and meaningless threats stem from frustration over the ongoing blockade.
Once a close ally of Trump but now a vocal critic, Marjorie Taylor Greene said those in the administration who identify as Christians should “ask God for forgiveness” and take steps to stop the president’s “madness.”
In a post on X, she wrote: “I know all of you—and I know him. He has gone mad now, and you are all responsible for it. I am not supporting Iran, but we must face reality.”
She further stated: “The United States and Israel started this war against Iran without provocation, which led to the closure of the strait. This war is based on long-standing claims that Iran would eventually develop nuclear weapons.”
Greene added: “Do you know who actually has nuclear weapons? Israel. They are capable of defending themselves. The United States should not be fighting wars on their behalf, killing innocent people and children, and bearing the cost. Threats to bomb power plants and bridges are harming ordinary Iranians—the same people Trump claimed he wanted to liberate.”
Although she had long supported Trump, she distanced herself last year. In June, criticizing the attack on Iran, she said it contradicted the “America First” policy and the promise to avoid costly foreign wars.
She wrote: “The promises we made to the American people in 2024 are not being fulfilled. This is not making America great again—it is something dark.”
Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer wrote on X: “Happy Easter, America. While you are celebrating with family and attending church, the President of the United States is behaving like an uncontrolled madman on social media.”
He added: “He is threatening potential war crimes and pushing allies away. That’s who he is—but that’s not who we are. Our country deserves better.”
Senator Bernie Sanders called Trump’s remarks “dangerous and mentally unbalanced.” He wrote: “One month into the war with Iran, this is what the president says on Easter Sunday. Congress must act now. This war must end.”
Senator Chris Murphy also described Trump as “completely out of control.” He said: “If I were in his cabinet, I would be discussing the 25th Amendment today. He has already led to the deaths of thousands and will cause more.”
Democratic Representative Ro Khanna stated that Trump is using vulgar language and threatening war crimes while failing to ensure the safety of U.S. troops stationed in Iran.
Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he said: “We need to end this war immediately. There must be an immediate ceasefire. Iran, Israel, and the United States must stop the bombings and move toward dialogue.”
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine urged Trump to speak more responsibly, calling his language “shameful and immature,” and warning that it increases risks for American troops.
Earlier, a 48-hour operation was conducted inside Iran to rescue two American pilots. Trump claimed the second rescued pilot was seriously injured and a “highly respected colonel,” calling the mission an “Easter miracle.”
However, analysts say these events show that even after five weeks of war, Iran has not been defeated and continues to mount effective resistance.
Democratic Representative Jake Auchincloss said: “Iran has realized that control over the Strait of Hormuz is strategically more important than nuclear weapons.”
He added: “Strategically, this war has failed.”
Before Trump’s Easter Sunday threat, a U.S. strike on a major Iranian bridge last Thursday killed at least eight people and injured 95. The B1 bridge between Tehran and Karaj was hit in two waves, and Trump later shared footage of the attack.
So far, more than 3,500 people have been killed across the Middle East in this conflict. In Lebanon alone, over 1,200 people have died due to Israeli airstrikes and military operations. Additionally, more than 4 million people in Iran and Lebanon have been displaced.
