Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it shot down an F-35 fighter jet. According to the IRGC, the aircraft was flying over central Iran.
A Telegram post by Fars News Agency stated that the plane was “completely destroyed,” and the status of the pilot remains unknown. Mehr News Agency reported that a powerful explosion at the time of the crash makes it unlikely that the pilot survived.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier, on March 11, the IRGC reportedly struck an F-35 stealth fighter over central Iran for the first time. U.S. media later confirmed that an F-35 was forced to make an emergency landing in West Asia and was believed to have been damaged during the attack.
