An attack has taken place on an oil refinery located on Iran’s Lavan Island. Iranian authorities stated that the strike was carried out on Wednesday (April 8), just a few hours after the ceasefire came into effect.
According to a report by Shana, the media outlet of Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said the refinery was attacked at around 10:00 AM local time. However, no casualties have been reported. Firefighters and security teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and began working to bring the fire under control.
In response, Iran launched drone attacks targeting Kuwait and United Arab Emirates. According to Colonel Saud Abdul Aziz Al-Otaibi, spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense, the country’s air defense system has intercepted 28 Iranian drones since 11:00 AM.
He added that several of these drones were aimed at critical oil facilities and power plants in the southern region, causing significant material damage to oil infrastructure, power stations, and water treatment facilities.
The United Arab Emirates has also made similar allegations, stating that its air defense systems are actively countering missiles and drones launched from Iran.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Defense said that the explosions heard across different parts of the country were the result of air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
After nearly five weeks of intense conflict, a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States came into effect on Tuesday (April 7). Final peace talks are scheduled to begin in Islamabad on Friday (April 10).
