U.S. President Donald Trump has said he is considering taking control of Iran’s oil resources if a swift agreement cannot be reached with the country. He made the remarks during a telephone interview with Fox News on Sunday. In the interview, Trump stated, “If they (Iran) do not come to an agreement quickly, I am thinking about blowing everything up and taking over the oil resources.” However, he expressed hope that Washington would be able to reach a deal with Iran by tomorrow (Monday).
Shortly after posting on his social media platform Truth Social—where he threatened strikes on Iran’s power plants and bridges and urged Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—Trump gave the phone interview.
During the interview, Trump also claimed that earlier this year, after the Iranian government carried out a harsh crackdown on anti-government protesters, the United States attempted to send weapons to the protesters through Kurdish militia forces. However, the effort failed because the Kurds reportedly kept the weapons for themselves.
Trump said, “We sent a lot of guns to the protesters… but I think the Kurds took those weapons for themselves.”
