With the cooperation of Russia’s state nuclear energy agency, Bangladesh has achieved a significant milestone in constructing its first nuclear power plant, as fresh nuclear fuel loading began on April 28 at Unit 1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, where a total of 163 fuel assemblies will be installed into the reactor core; following this, the reactor will be gradually brought to the minimum controlled power level and its electricity generation will be increased step by step, while in the next phase the power start-up process will be completed, enabling electricity generated by the plant to be supplied to the national grid; Director General Alexey Likhachev stated that through this achievement Bangladesh has joined the group of nations utilizing peaceful nuclear energy, which will serve as a reliable source for sustainable development, and he emphasized that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will become a key pillar of the country’s energy system; he further noted that this project represents an important milestone for the organization as well, contributing to the global advancement of nuclear energy and strengthening friendly relations with international partners, adding that they are pleased to work jointly with Bangladesh in building a modern and reliable nuclear power facility and see strong potential for expanding cooperation in the future.
