On the occasion of Independence and National Day, President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid deep tribute to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.
During the early morning ceremony on Thursday, they observed a moment of silence in honor of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the In the Great Liberation War of 1971. At that time, a smartly turned-out contingent of the armed forces presented a guard of honor, while the mournful tune of the bugle created a solemn atmosphere.
After the tribute, the President and the Prime Minister signed the visitors’ book at the memorial premises. Later, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, along with party leaders and activists, placed two more wreaths.
Prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country’s independence. The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament, the Chief Justice, members of the cabinet, Members of Parliament, senior leaders of various political parties, and high-ranking civil and military officials.
