Iran has once again signaled the possibility of expanding its nuclear program if the country comes under further military attack, raising fresh concerns across the international community. Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated in a post on X that Tehran could consider enriching uranium up to 90 percent in response to any future assault on the country. Such a level is considered dangerously close to weapons-grade material used in the development of nuclear arms.
According to Rezaei, the matter could soon be discussed and reviewed within Iran’s parliament as part of a broader national security strategy. His remarks have intensified fears of a new escalation in the Middle East at a time when tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel remain at a critical stage.
International analysts believe the statement reflects Tehran’s growing frustration over military threats and increasing pressure from Western powers. The possibility of uranium enrichment at such a high level could trigger severe reactions from the international community, particularly from Washington and its allies, who have long accused Iran of seeking the capability to build nuclear weapons. Iran, however, continues to insist that its nuclear activities are intended solely for peaceful civilian purposes.
The latest warning comes amid ongoing instability across the Middle East, including the Gaza conflict, rising tensions in the Red Sea, and confrontations involving Iran-backed armed groups in the region. Security experts warn that any further military escalation involving Iran could dramatically worsen regional instability and increase the risk of a broader conflict.
Iran’s nuclear program has remained one of the most controversial issues in global politics for more than two decades. Although the 2015 nuclear agreement temporarily reduced tensions, the situation deteriorated again after the United States withdrew from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Tehran. Since then, Iran has gradually expanded its uranium enrichment activities, leading to repeated warnings from Western governments and international watchdogs.
Observers say the latest remarks from Iranian officials are not merely political rhetoric but could represent a strategic message aimed at deterring future attacks while strengthening Iran’s position in ongoing geopolitical confrontations. As regional tensions continue to rise, the international community is closely monitoring Tehran’s next steps, fearing that any miscalculation could push the Middle East toward a far more dangerous and unpredictable phase.
