Compared to the past few days, traffic heading towards Dhaka on the Sirajganj-Tangail highway has increased noticeably since Friday morning.
Around 11 a.m., a traffic jam formed on the western end of the Jamuna Bridge, causing vehicles to move slowly. From Koddar Mor to the bridge, a traffic queue stretching nearly 10 kilometers was reported. The congestion on the western end worsened due to normal traffic flow not being maintained on the eastern end of the bridge.
However, according to a police officer, traffic has not completely stopped. Vehicles are moving slowly, and the deployment of additional police personnel has helped maintain order on the highway.
Meanwhile, passengers have reported significant inconvenience due to the prolonged traffic jam. A couple traveling from Pabna to Tangail mentioned that after reaching Koddar Mor around 11 a.m., they got stuck in traffic and became uncertain about reaching their destination on time.
A garment factory official said that although he left at 9 a.m., he still had not crossed the bridge by noon. He feared that a journey that usually takes five to six hours could take 10 to 12 hours in the current traffic. Prolonged waiting in traffic has also caused some family members to fall ill.
Bus drivers noted that while traffic congestion before Eid was manageable, the return journey is proving difficult, and passengers are facing considerable discomfort.
Officials stated that if traffic flow on the eastern end of the bridge were restored, the situation on the western side would improve significantly.
