On the social media platform Truth Social, owned by him, U.S. President Donald Trump shared a controversial and racially charged podcast by far-right radio host Michael Savage, in which countries like India and China were described as “hell,” alongside strong criticism of the U.S. birthright citizenship law; in his “Savage Nation” podcast, Savage claimed that women from countries such as India and China travel to the United States in the ninth month of pregnancy solely to give birth so that their child can automatically obtain U.S. citizenship by birth, a practice he labeled as “birth tourism,” arguing that these children later gain the ability to bring their families to the United States; he further used aggressive rhetoric, referring to Indian and Chinese immigrants as “laptop gangsters,” and claimed that Silicon Valley in California is now dominated by people from these countries, reducing job opportunities for white Americans, while also accusing these immigrants of disrespecting the American flag and causing more harm to the country than mafias; meanwhile, President Trump has long supported ending birthright citizenship, and after beginning his second term in January 2025, he signed an executive order to restrict this benefit in certain cases, although he recently claimed in an interview that no other country besides the United States has such a policy—which is incorrect, as at least 36 countries, including Canada and Mexico, grant citizenship by birth; currently, a case known as “Trump v. Barbara” is being heard in the Supreme Court of the United States, challenging this executive order, while under the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, anyone born on U.S. soil is entitled to citizenship, and Trump has stated that if the court rules against his administration, it would be a blow to America’s prestige.
