On Tuesday evening, just a few hours before the scheduled time for launching an हमला on Iran, Donald Trump announced on his own platform Truth Social that he had decided to suspend the planned bombing, giving credit to Pakistan for mediating the understanding; the U.S. President agreed to delay the proposed attack on Iran for two weeks, despite earlier warning that if Tehran failed to comply, “an entire civilization would be destroyed tonight”; he set a condition that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz; Trump wrote that following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged him not to unleash destructive force, and as Iran agreed to immediately and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz, he consented to suspend the bombing and military action for two weeks; the message was posted at 6:32 PM local U.S. time, about one and a half hours before the 8 PM deadline; shortly afterward, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that a preliminary agreement had been reached, stating that if attacks on Iran ceased, its armed forces would also halt defensive operations, and safe navigation through the Strait would be ensured for the next two weeks considering technical constraints; he also thanked Pakistan for its last-minute mediation; Iran’s Supreme National Security Council indicated that if talks proceed successfully, the ceasefire period could be extended beyond two weeks; meanwhile, Pakistan announced on Wednesday that Iran and the United States, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire, which would also include Lebanon, and invited both sides to Islamabad for talks on April 10 aimed at a lasting resolution; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a post on X, expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of both countries, saying they had shown wisdom and constructive engagement toward peace and stability, and voiced hope that the “Islamabad talks” would lead to long-term peace; however, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the United States has not yet formally agreed, and nothing is final until officially announced; a White House official also confirmed that Israel has agreed to the ceasefire; prior to the announcement, speculation had been growing that Trump might extend the deadline again, but tensions escalated after his earlier warning that “an entire civilization would be destroyed tonight… I don’t want it to happen, but it probably will,” calling it one of the most significant moments in world history; he had previously threatened to target Iran’s power plants, bridges, and civilian infrastructure—actions many legal experts consider war crimes; later, Trump claimed victory, stating that the United States had achieved and exceeded all military objectives and received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a viable basis for negotiations; he said the next two weeks would be used to finalize the agreement and expressed optimism that long-standing disputes were close to resolution; the conflict, which began on February 28 with a joint U.S.-Israeli operation, has continued for more than five weeks; Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu argued the campaign was necessary to eliminate Iran as a regional threat and prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons, although many legal experts have described it as a provocative attack and a clear violation of international law; since the war began, at least 2,076 people have been killed in Iran, with 28 more deaths reported in neighboring Gulf countries, while 13 U.S. service members and 26 people in Israel have also been killed.
