The United Nations has once again reaffirmed its strong support and solidarity with Bangladesh, as stated by António Guterres.
During a meeting held at the UN Headquarters in New York, the Secretary-General met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman. He extended his warm congratulations to the newly formed government of Bangladesh and expressed optimism about the country’s continued progress.
Guterres also highly praised Bangladesh for its humanitarian role in hosting displaced Rohingya people. He acknowledged the country’s compassion, generosity, and leadership in managing one of the world’s most pressing refugee crises, noting that Bangladesh’s efforts have earned global recognition.
The discussion also covered several pressing global issues. The Foreign Minister highlighted the challenges faced by developing and vulnerable nations due to the ongoing global fuel crisis. He emphasized that such crises tend to disproportionately impact poorer countries, increasing their economic strain.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, an invitation was extended to the UN Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time. Guterres warmly accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations in addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development goals.
