Unrest in the Middle East again: Retaliatory military strikes between Iran and the United States

Military tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply intensified once again after Washington reportedly launched fresh strikes on a military facility in southern Iran, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for targeting a U.S. air base somewhere in the Middle East.
However, Iranian authorities did not specify which American base was attacked, leaving regional security analysts closely monitoring developments amid fears of a broader confrontation.
According to regional reports, the latest U.S. strike targeted a military installation near Bandar Abbas, a strategically significant area close to the Strait of Hormuz. At nearly the same time, U.S. forces announced that four Iranian drones approaching the Hormuz region had been intercepted and destroyed.
Earlier, the IRGC reportedly forced four vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz to turn back after ignoring initial warnings issued by Iranian naval forces. Iranian sources also claimed that warning fire had been directed at a U.S.-linked tanker navigating near the strategic waterway.
The rapidly escalating confrontation comes after U.S. President Donald Trump declared that “no one will control Hormuz,” signaling Washington’s determination to maintain unrestricted navigation through one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Trump also emphasized that Iran would not receive sanctions relief even if it abandoned its stockpile of enriched uranium.
Speaking during a public address, Trump stated:
“We have the strongest military force in the world. Iran is very eager to make a deal, but so far they have not reached that point. We are not satisfied. Now we either make a deal, or we finish the operation.”
Iranian officials strongly rejected the remarks. Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, dismissed Trump’s statements as “political rhetoric” and reaffirmed that Tehran would never retreat from its strategic red lines.
According to Iranian officials, those red lines include the country’s right to enrich uranium, its authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and the complete removal of international sanctions.
Meanwhile, Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, accused Washington of pushing “unacceptable demands” after allegedly failing to achieve its objectives militarily.
Bagheri argued that current U.S. proposals for ending the conflict are disconnected from “regional realities” and would not be accepted by Tehran under pressure.
The growing crisis has already sent shockwaves across the Gulf region. Kuwait confirmed that its defense systems responded to multiple incoming missile and drone threats, while air raid sirens sounded across several areas, triggering widespread public concern.
Security experts warn that any prolonged military escalation around the Strait of Hormuz could have severe consequences for global energy markets and international trade routes. Nearly one-third of the world’s seaborne oil shipments pass through the narrow waterway, making it one of the most strategically sensitive maritime corridors on earth.
Analysts say the latest developments indicate that the standoff between Washington and Tehran is no longer confined to diplomatic pressure and proxy tensions, but may be moving toward a far more dangerous phase of direct military confrontation.
